Dewy vs Matte
What foundation should I choose?
We all have different shades and undertones to our skin. Not only must we consider color matching, we must also consider our skin’s undertone. This will make or break the difference between your complexion looking pale and washed-out or refreshed and rejuvenated.
First Step:
Tone Matching
In natural light, check the appearance of your veins beneath your skin. If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone. If your veins look green or a greenish blue, you have a warm skin tone. If you can’t tell whether or not your veins are green or blue, you probably have a neutral skin tone.

Second Step:
Choose Your Finished Look
Dewy Finish
This approach gives glowing skin that looks moisturized and gives a natural glow.
Pros: Easy to build and blend.
Cons: Not as much coverage for certain dark spots and skin conditions.
Matte Finish
For a velvety look, this finish is less oily and makes your skin have an air-brushed look without reflecting light.
Pros: Provides full coverage. This is ideal for anyone who needs to cover something specifically on the face; matte formulas achieve this.
Cons: Can tend to dry quickly and give the appearance of dry skin.
Smokey Eyes
Ideal for any night!
The must-haves for a natural smokey eye look include a subtle nude shade eyeshadow (preferably white matte), a brown eyeshadow for the outer lid, a blending brush, a gel-based eyeliner, black mascara and a pop of shimmer.
The white and brown blend gives a natural look, delivering a desired smokey effect
Lipstick/Gloss
Pucker up!
Make sure your lips are clean and ready for application, especially if you’re going to wear a darker shade on them. One of the most important lipstick rules is that one should always apply lip liner before wearing lipstick.
- If you have thin lips Overdraw your lips with a lip liner that comes close to matching your lip color.
- If you have fuller lips, “use a medium to dark lip liner and a lipstick that is a tad deeper” than your natural color
